Chehalem Ridge B&B Review — Mountaintop Views & Wine Country Charm in Newberg, OR

In this post I share my experience visiting Chehalem Ridge Bed and Breakfast, a boutique hotel located in the heart of the Willamette Valley. Although this was a sponsored stay, I will share my honest opinion on my experience as solo traveler.

Claw-foot tub in the Rose Room

Imagine sitting on a patio overlooking the Willamette Valley with a cup of coffee, wrapped up in the coziest robe. The air is still and quiet. The temperature is pleasant with no humidity.  You’re waiting for your bubble bath to fill the claw-foot tub in your room. To me, that’s luxury. I had the pleasure of staying at Chehalem Ridge Bed and Breakfast in Newberg, Oregon, for the ultimate one-person romantic experience.

Chehalem Ridge Bed and Breakfast is located right on a mountain top. From any corner of the property, you can overlook the town of Newberg. Each of the 5 rooms has its own patio, so that you can privately enjoy the view at any time. Each room is based on a different theme, such as Oregon wine country, the Oregon Coast, and the Oregon Trail. The bed-and-breakfast is a family-style home with communal spaces. For breakfast, when the weather is nice, you can sit on the wrap-around patio and enjoy the view of the town. There’s a garden where they plant the herbs they use for breakfast. There’s a home library, an entertainment room, and gathering spaces both inside and out. You feel comfortable as soon as you arrive because it feels as if you’d just arrived at your grandparents’ home for the weekend.

First Impressions

I was greeted by Kristin, the Innkeeper and owner. She walked me around the property and introduced me to my room. A tour of the space and the room is such a thoughtful touch that I appreciate more as I travel. In an age where visitors can get a digital key or the check-in process is limited to the front desk, I love an intentional introduction to a stay. This allows me to become acclimated quicker, learn more about the property, and get my questions answered. Chehalem Ridge Bed and Breakfast has only 5 rooms, which allows the Innkeepers to provide intimate and personalized hospitality to their guests. Arriving and the Innkeeper already knows your name is a special experience.

How was the room?

I stayed in the Rose Room. Though two people can stay in the Rose room comfortably, it’s perfectly curated for the solo traveler. The claw-foot vintage rose colored tub stole the show for me. I rarely take bubble baths when I travel, but it was mandatory in this room. Chehalem Ridge B&B provided rose petals that melt like bath bombs and a candle to light. The robes provided were thick, luxurious linen, soft to the touch. I grabbed a bottle of local pinot noir from the minibar downstairs and a book from the home library, and enjoyed a quiet morning. The rose room is pink themed, but it’s not overly done. The décor is simple and comfortable. As mentioned prior, each room has its own private patio. Behind the patio is a large, almost floor-to-ceiling window that offers a view of the town from your bed.

Sneak Peak into the Oregon Trail room

I had the opportunity to peek into the other 4 rooms. The Oregon Trail room is right across the hallway, with a high-seated bed and a skylight window. The Oregon Coast room is nautical-themed; the Wine Country room has dark, moody colors and offers a more sophisticated feel; the High Desert Suite is the largest room in the house, with a fireplace, sitting area, and a wraparound porch. The High Desert Suite is ideal for a honeymoon or romantic getaway. Each room is intentionally curated and has your essential amenities.

Service and Hospitality

Every morning, a multi-course breakfast is served. The Innkeepers know your name; no need to introduce yourself. Kristin, Ayelet, and Julissa are sweet and personable. You can tell they are passionate about what they do. I had a specific request for recommendations for women-owned wineries and businesses to support while in town. I also shared my plans of visiting the Oregon Coast. Innkeeper Julissa was so kind as to help create an itinerary for my day of wine tasting and recommended stops along the coast while traveling south to Florence. As a solo traveler, I’m always obsessing over the details of my travels. It was relieving to sit back and not have to worry about my Oregon itinerary. I had a wonderful time because all their recommendations were perfectly fit for me. I didn’t have to share much about my interests; however, they were still able to curate an itinerary perfectly for me. That’s what makes Chehalem Ridge Bed and Breakfast a special place, not the view (even though it's beautiful), not the peaceful bubble bath (even though I adored every minute of it), but the intentional hospitality.

While visiting the Willamette Valley, these are my recommendations:

While in Newberg, Oregon, I visited several locally owned places that showed me the town's culture. Located in the heart of the Willamette Valley, many of the restaurants offered wine-forward cuisine. Some of my favorite restaurants were The Newbergundian Bistro, the Clementines, and Red Hills Market (Dundee). I still dream of the Dundee Grinder from Red Hills Market. For wine tasting, I enjoyed supporting Remy Wines (a queer-owned winery) and Cramoisi Vineyards (a Latina-owned winery and winemaker).

When in the Willamette Valley, don’t skip over the small towns. Visit Newberg, Oregon, and stay at the Chehalem Ridge Bed and Breakfast for their exceptional hospitality, mountaintop views, and cozy rooms.
